Luxury Mattresses for Your Little Ones
by Sarah Dechant
Although mattresses are not something we wear on the streets, it does not mean that you should not splurge on it. After all, a good night’s rest depends on a good mattress. Unfortunately, the mattress for the cradle, crib, bed or bassinet is usually the last thing parents think of when they are buying items for the nursery or for their baby.

Set aside the fact that a nursery can be without a mattress. On the contrary, mattress for baby crib or cradle is one of the most important items you could buy for your child. You have to keep in mind that it is the mattress that will support and cradle your newborn infant when they are not in your arms.

This is one luxury that you can definitely afford because it is completely worth it to see your children sleeping soundly on a good mattress. And this also means that you will be sleeping soundly knowing your toddler is lying safely on a good mattress.

Things to look out for when purchasing a mattress:

1. The Size of the Mattress in Relation to the Crib

When your mattress is too small, your baby could fall through the crack and suffocate during the night. Two of your fingers should not be able to fit between the space of the mattress and bed frame.

2. The Firmness of the Mattress

Firmness means that your baby will not fall into the bed when they are placed there. A firm and sturdy mattress is good because studies have shown that soft bedding could be one of the causes of sudden infant death syndrome.

3. The Ventilation of Organic Mattresses

We all know how babies can get a little stinky. The more vents there are in the mattress, the less likely the odors remain. The vents will help keep the mattress smelling fresh.

Organic mattresses are known to do this job well. With the boom of green technology and products, it is only right that you should start appreciating green and organic mattresses.

Organic mattresses and changing pads are made of all-natural materials and are certainly free of any synthetic chemicals that might be very dangerous to your baby’s very vulnerable immune system. We all know that a baby cannot defend itself from toxic chemicals and it is the parent’s job to keep their baby safe from the danger this represents.

The common materials used for organic mattresses are usually pure wool and organic cotton. These materials are generally safe for child use.

On the other hand, the material from synthetic foam mattresses contains fire retardants and polyurethane that are toxic and harmful to children. Organic mattresses allow a free flow of air in and around the baby.

Switching from a regular mattress to an organic one is a very good move for everyone. This will save the environment, help farmers in their plight and will keep your baby safe from dangerous chemicals. Buying organic materials will also mean that you are joining in the fight for environmentalists everywhere.
